Oxford went down 7-3 at Leamington in the Veterans Midland League – despite a fine maximum from Karl Bushell.
The Forum ace won all his matches in straight sets, but Leamington’s strength in depth proved decisive.
Chris Lansley, making his first-team debut, lost to Pat McCabe 15-13 in the fifth, and took Simon Griew to the deciding set.
Neil Hurford also went to five sets with Simon and Mark Jackson.
