Two  cracking 5lb chub gave Martin Robinson victory in the latest Kidlington AS match for the Joan Hill Trophy on the Cherwell.

The two fish both weighed 5.2.0, to make up the bulk of his winning 17.4.0. The rest of his catch comprised roach.

One of the chub was caught on a feeder with bread, the rest falling to pole-fished maggot over chopped worm.

Jan Cebula was runner-up with 5.12.0 on maggot on stick and maggot feeder.

Jason Bean had 5.3.0 on maggot and pole for third place.

Thirty anglers fished the Angling Trust Oxford Winter League practice match on a clear Oxford Canal in the centre of the city.

Colin Wainwright (Sensas A4) led them home with 11.14.0 of skimmers on punched bread and perch on worm.

Paul Passmore (Devizes) caught five good perch on worm, plus roach on bloodworm, for a second-placed 10.13.0, followed by Tony Hobbs (Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths) with 7.15.0 of perch on worm.

North Oxford AS contested their Fair Rosamund Shield on a gin-clear and boat-free Oxford Canal at Kidlington which turned into a grueller, with only seven weighing in.

The top three all caught small perch on worm, with just 0.10.8 being enough for Ian Whittington to take the honours. Sonny Ayres had 0.8.0, just ahead of Bob Yeomans (RAF Garbolino) 0.6.0.
