Paul Davis picked up the unsung hero award for his work with Bicester Blue Fins Masters SwimmingClub in the annual ceremony at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium.

Davis saved the club from extinction when taking on the roles of chairman, treasurer, secretary, head of sponsorship and membership secretary when it was at its lowest ebb.

He said he enjoyed the role immensely.

Davis added: “It’s just seeing other people enjoying what we do.

“I swim, but I enjoy seeing others succeeding and getting the most out of swimming.

“It’s nice seeing 85-year-olds getting involved, it’s not just about the youngsters.

“It’s about giving people a purpose in life.”

Bicester’s Thomas Langston expressed his surprise at the award.

The cerebral palsy sufferer won the disability award for his achievements on the ‘Feel Inspired’ golf coaching programme.

“I wasn’t expecting it at all,” he said.

“My mum’s boyfriend got me into it. I’m very happy and I give my coach Tom (Baker) ten out of ten.”

Baker said: “Thomas doesn’t give up and is very impressive.

"Golf helps in all aspects and we try to show that it is available to everyone, and Thomas epitomises that.”
