Witney took over top spot in the South Clubs League Division 3A with a convincing 4-1 home win over former leaders West Hampstead.

The hosts went ahead with an outstanding reverse stick strike by Hayley Dobson from a tight angle.

West Hampstead fought back, making the most of the low sun, but Witney held firm and doubled their lead before half-time with a well-taken goal from Charlotte Manning.

After the break, Witney continued to dominate, adding a third when Hayley Dobson pulled a ball back sharply to force an own goal.

West Hampstead scored from a slick short corner before Witney captain Katie Gatt put the result beyond doubt with an unstoppable flick.

Oxford Hawks returned from Southampton having lost 1-0 to Trojans in their last Investec Conference West game before the winter break.

The visitors made a shaky start and were indebted to goalkeeper Jess Hudson, who made two good saves to keep them on level terms.

Just after the break, Hawks suffered a blow when they lost Lucy Stewart with a suspected broken nose, but they continued to battle on, with Kirsty Chapman and Briony Hearn in commanding form at the back.

However, 15 minutes from time, Trojans scored the only goal with a deflected penalty-corner strike, leaving Hudson with no chance.

Hawks spent the rest of the game pressing for an equaliser, but were unable to break through.

Bicester suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Phoenix & Ranelagh in Premier 1 of the Trysports Three- Counties League.

The hosts failed to settle in the first half and soon found thmselves a goal down.

After the interval, despite making some much-needed counter-attacks with Jo Wells to the fore, Bicester could not find an equaliser.
