HOCKEY: Sloppy Bicester suffer a scare
12:00pm Thursday 31st October 2013 in Sport
Bicester allowed a 6-1 lead to be reduced to 6-5 away to Old Merchant Taylor 2nd in MBB&O Division 1, but held on.
A hat-trick from Dave Sutcliffe, including a sublime lob, an own goal and a CJ Birtles strike put Bicester 5-0 up.
Although Mark Dixey clawed one back in the second-half, Luke Smith made it 6-1.
However, a collapse saw Dixey score four more goals to leave the hosts hanging on for victory at the end.
Gordon Brass scored the winner as Bicester 2nd beat Harrow 2-1 at home in Division 5.
With the sides locked at 1-1 with a minute left, a draw looked likely, only for Brass to complete his double.
Brass had fired his side in front, only for the visitors to level.
A late strike meant Bicester 3rd had to settle for a 3-3 draw against Maidenhead 4th in Open Division 8.
Trailing 2-0 at the break, two penalty corners within the first five minutes of the second-half from Nick Styles brought it level.
Ten minutes later, Styles completed his treble with a shot from the top of the D which a defender tipped just past the outstretched keeper and in off the post.
The home side looked like holding on for victory, but with two minutes left, Maidenhead netted a leveller.
Bicester ladies edged to a 2-1 win at home to Wycombe 2nd in Trysports Three Counties League Premier 1.
The hosts went ahead through a Emma Gordon strike and doubled their lead with Ali McGreggor’s reverse stick sweep off Ella Weston’s cross.
Although Wycombe clawed one back, Bicester held on.
Bicester 3rd lost 1-0 at home to Henley 4th in Division 5.
