Percy Blake, a winger with Headington United and Oxford City, has died aged 82 after a short illness.
Blake, of Wheatley, was most proud that he played for Headington as the team turned professional and changed their name to Oxford United.
However, his father didn’t want him to be a professional and he played in the reser-ves.
He joined Headington United at the age of 13, playing his first game in the Oxfordshire Senior League a year later.
Following National Service with the Royal Engineers at Aldershot, he rejoined Headington, winning two Oxfordshire Senior Cup medals.
Blake then had one season at Witney Town, before joining Oxford City, and then Abingdon Town.
He once scored nine goals in one match against Pinner FC.
Blake also played cricket for Headington CC and golf at North Oxford.
He worked as an architect, before running grocery shops and then an estate agents in Wheatley where he was a former parish councillor.
He leaves a widow Mary, son Stephen, daughters Sue, Carol and Samantha, 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
His memorial service is at St Mary the Virgin Church, Wheatley, on Tuesday (11am).
