FOOTBALL: Stein issues plea to Blossom and Bridges
FA CARLSBERG TROPHY
Banbury United boss Edwin Stein is looking to experienced duo Wayne Blossom and Scott Bridges to set a better example as they return from suspensions for the first qualifying round tie at Calor League Premier Division rivals Stourbridge tomorrow.
Stein admits his side missed the pair, but was disappointed by the way they became unavailable.
He said: “I think at this early stage of the season I have to question the position that I have had two of our most senior players sent off.
“I am trying to bed in a group of young players with an average age of 19 and they need the experienced players alongside them.”
Giant striker Leon Simpson faces a fitness test on the calf injury he picked up early on in the 2-1 home defeat by Truro City last week.
And Stein could include a former Watford forward, who has been training with the Puritans this week.
Striker Aaron Woodley is unavailable as North Leigh seek to transfer their sparkling league form to the trophy when they visit Calor League Division 1 Central side Marlow.
Mark Gee’s side have won eight league games in a row, but bowed out of the Red Insure Cup 3-0 at Swindon Supermarine on Wednesday.
Gee said: “We have been very fortunate in that we have had no injuries, no suspensions and players in form.”
Josh Dutton-Black comes into the squad.
Banbury Utd (v Stourbridge, away): Bedwell, Cray, Martin, Blossom, Morgan, Mbamarah, Bridges, Ryan, Lawless, Mtandari, Isaac, Mukuna, Talabi, Abrahams, Simpson, Dumbleton, McNulty, Fraser-Allen.
North Leigh (v Marlow, away): from White, Hole, Organ, Bowles, Gunn, Caton, Sanders, Osborne-Ricketts, McDonagh, Williams, Turk, Else, Walcott, Westlake, Dutton-Black.
BANBURY United host an evening with Barry Fry, the former Barnet, Southend and Birmingham City manager, who is director of football at Peterborough United, next Friday.
Tickets, priced £20, to include ‘bangers and mash’, are available from David Shadbolt on 01295 253533 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
