9:20am Tuesday 1st October 2013 in Sport
OLIVER Tite will be hoping local knowledge pays off as the Frilford Heath member begins European Tour Qualifying on his home course.
The four-round event is one of eight held across Europe.
It forms the first step to earning a card on the full tour for the 2014 season.
Tite is among 102 players starting their challenge today, hoping to claim a top-20 finish and progress to the next stage.
It is the third time Frilford’s Red Course has hosted a Q School event and spectators are welcome.
The club are hosting a Black Tee Challenge this Sunday, giving players a chance to play the course lay-out used by the professionals this week. Entry is £40.
- ANGELA Payne and Roger Marris won a fiercely contested Stevens Bowl, where the top four couples were all separated on count back.
The event was the final formal event of Frilford Heath’s ladies’ centenary year.
The leading teams all returned with 39 points, but Payne and Marris finished on top to claim the silver bowl, donated by Dick and Rose Stevens.
- DOMINIC Simmons cruised to victory in the Junior Captain’s Trophy, played on Frilford Heath’s Green Course.
The in-form youngster carded 45 points, eight ahead of nearest challenger Josh Davies, who pipped Christian Wernham-Bourke by a single point.
