FOOTBALL: Brilliant Brooks on a hot streak
9:10am Thursday 26th September 2013 in Sport
RYAN Brooks again showed why he is one of the top strikers in the Premier Division after keeping Ardley on the heels of the leaders with four goals in four days.
The ace marksmen hit a hat-trick on Saturday as Kevin Brock’s side won 4-1 at basement side Abingdon United.
But a more crucial strike came on Tuesday night, when Brooks struck with ten minutes remaining in a 2-1 home victory over Cheltenham Saracens.
The back-to-back victories leave Ardley fourth in the table, but just two points off top spot with games in hand over all the sides above them.
On Tuesday night, Ardley fell behind to a goal from Jordan Bryan after just 11 seconds.
The hosts then contrived to miss two first-half penalties, with Brooks seeing his effort saved and Jon Gardner then blazing over the bar.
However, they upped their game in the second half, and a third penalty was put away by Callum Convey to level the scores.
Brooks then grabbed the winner with ten minutes remaining.
On Saturday, things were much more straightforward.
Troy Bryan played Brooks in to open the scoring, only for Abingdon’s Graham Edney to equalise just before half-time.
Brooks made it 2-1 four minutes into the second period, and three minutes later Bryan headed in.
After missing an easy chance to get his hat-trick, Brooks made amends when netting from close range.
