FOOTBALL: Oakley march on after extending winning run
10:00am Thursday 26th September 2013 in Sport
OAKLEY United came out on top 3-1 at Adderbury Park in the battle between the top two Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division clubs.
The hosts dominated the first half, but it was the visitors who made it six wins from as many games with goals from Kieran Schmidt, Adam Beckett and Jordan Jenkins.
Junior Howards’ stunning 30-yard strike proved in vain for Adderbury, who are now six points off top spot.
Bletchingdon were left to rue missed chances as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Oxford University Press.
The visitors dominated the first half and Sam Wharton’s lob gave them the lead after a defensive mix-up.
Bletchingdon changed tactics and formation at half-time, and levelled when full back Callum Lloyd’s powerful shot from 20 yards squirmed through the fingers of Press goalkeeper Chris Hickin.
Ben Foster then missed three glorious chances for Bletchingdon and also struck the bar with a bullet header as Press hung on.
Charlton United Res inflicted a first defeat on Launton Sports Res with a 2-1 home victory in Division 3.
Steven McGloclain sma-shed home Charlton’s opener, only for Mark Hobbs to equaliser.
Charlton were back in front before half-time when Leon Sofroniou’s 25-yard drive went through the Launton keeper’s legs.
To add to Launton’s woes they had a player sent off late on for foul and abusive language to round off a disappointing afternoon.
