MOTORSPORT: Dry track no help for Walkinshaw
8:00am Tuesday 17th September 2013 in Sport
CHIPPING Norton’s Fergus Walkinshaw had to be satisfied with a eighth place in the latest round of the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup at Rockingham over the weekend.
He was hoping to repeat his top-six form from the previous round at Knockhill.
However, it did not turn out that way.
Walkinshaw was ninth in Saturday’s race and was hoping to improve on that the next day.
Despite being one of the last away for Sunday’s race, Walkinshaw wasted no time in catching the pack.
But a badly damaged front splitter and right front wheel sustained during the race saw him limp home in eighth.
Walkinshaw said: “We were really hoping that the forecast wet weather was going to come into play.
“But it never really came and a disappointing start put us a bit on the back foot.
“With the damage sustained in the midfield battles it was just a case of nursing the car home.”
Walkinshaw is next in action at Silverstone in a fortnight’s time.
