MOTORSPORT: Plato aims to narrow the gap on leaders
10:00am Saturday 14th September 2013 in Sport
Oxford's Jason Plato bids to keep his fading Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title hopes alive when the series continues at Rockingham, near Corby, tomorrow.
The MG KX Momentum Racing driver struggled to find the right set-up for his MG6 machine at the last round in Knockhill, Scotland, and dropped further behind leader Matt Neal.
Plato now sits fifth, 54 points off the top, and with just three rounds left time, he needs a strong showing in this weekend’s three races to get back into contention.
Standings (top ten): 1 M Neal 293, 2 A Jordan 287, 3 G Shedden 266, 4 C Turkington 263, 5 J Plato 239, 6 S Tordoff 197, 7 A Morgan 180, 8 A Smith 126, 9 M Jackson 119, 10 J Smith 116.
FERGUS Walkinshaw will be aiming to repeat his top-six form from the last Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup round at Knockhill in this weekend’s round at Rockingham.
The Chipping Norton driver produced a blistering recovery drive from the back of the grid for a seventh place finish followed by a return to the top six to top off one of FW Motorsport’s best weekends of its debut season.
Walkinshaw, who is tenth in the standings, said: “Those results have given us a new wave of confidence heading into the final three events of the season.”
The first race is at 3pm today, with the second at 3.22pm tomorrow.
Standings (top ten): 1 T Ingram 617, 2 C Breeze 488, 3 M Nicoll-Jones 396, 4 M Davies 374, 5 P Massot 348, 6 R Boston 324, 7 A Watson 272, 8 J Orton 264, 9 C Boardley 252, 10 F Walkinshaw 208.
