Oxford hitman Constable set to miss Cheltenham test
Oxford United are likely to be without James Constable for their Sky Bet League Two clash at Cheltenham today.
Boss Chris Wilder admitted there were fitness concerns over a few of his players, but the club’s five-time leading scorer is the biggest doubt.
The striker is unlikely to make the trip, although the U’s are still waiting for clarification on a foot injury picked up last weekend.
Wilder said: “There are doubts on one or two, but it’s up to those who put a shirt on to go out and work hard to try and get us another result.
“There has been a bit of confusion regarding the scan, but he (Constable) has not trained all week so has got to be a major doubt for us.”
United will make at least one change to their squad, with loan signing Shwan Jalal coming in for injured goalkeeper Max Crocombe (shoulder).
There is a nine-point gap after just six games between the in-form U’s and today’s hosts, who are still waiting for a first home win.
By contrast, United are unbeaten and have won all three games on the road.
But Wilder warned it would be a huge mistake to underestimate the Robins.
He said: “Cheltenham have done extremely well over the last two or three seasons and have just not got off to the start that they wanted.
“They are really dangerous opponents, there will be nothing in this game and I expect this to be our toughest test.”
Cheltenham add defender James Wilson to their squad after signing him on loan from Bristol City yesterday.
Veteran striker Jamie Cureton was due to return from injury for Cheltenham, but a calf problem means he is unlikely to make it.
Defenders Troy Brown (hamstring) and Craig Braham-Barrett (ankle) are definitely ruled out, but on-loan Crystal Palace centre back Ryan Inniss is expected to return after a calf problem.
Cheltenham Tn: from Brown, Jombati, Elliott, Lowe, Richards, McGlashan, Noble, Penn, Deering, Gillespie, Gornell, Inniss, Kotwica, Harrison, Taylor, Vincent, Rivers, Wilson, Cureton.
Oxford Utd: from Clarke, Hunt, Mullins, Wright, Newey, Potter, Whing, Rose, Hall, Kitson, Smalley, Constable, Marsh, O’Dowda, Williams, Ruffels, Davies, Raynes, Jalal.
