ICE HOCKEY: Whillock to make debut for Stars
10:00am Saturday 7th September 2013 in Sport
Mike Whillock will make his Oxford City Stars debut when they open their National League South Division 2 campaign at home to Basingstoke Buffalo tomorrow.
The former Milton Keynes Thunder man, who rejoined this week, comes straight into a Stars side that have no injury worries.
They will be hoping to keep up their winning running against their long-time rivals.
Oxford and Basingstoke enjoyed a number of close battles since the Stars were reformed for the 2003/4 season and have regularly been in the same division.
Basingstoke won the National League title back in 2003, but recent history favours Stars.
They did the double over their rivals last season, both matches following the same pattern.
There was little between the teams on both occasions, only for Stars to power home in the third period.
Basingstoke have also strengthened over the summer, with Gareth Wheeler, who joined from Bracknell Hornets, providing some solid experience on the defensive line.
