FOOTBALL: Ardley give Thame lesson in finishing
10:00am Thursday 22nd August 2013 in Sport
Ardley United gave Thame United a lesson in finishing as they reached the FA Cup preliminary round with a 4-1 home victory.
They now host Hanworth Villa in the next round on Saturday, August 31.
While Ardley had the balance of play, goalscoring opportunities were even, but it was the hosts who converted their chances.
Kevin Brock’s side took the lead after 23 minutes when Thame keeper Lee Farrow parried a shot from Ryan Brooks, only for Darren Beckett to react the quickest and score from close range.
Farrow was called into action later in the half when he kept out a Kelvin McIntosh header from Jon Gardner’s free-kick.
After the break, Thame had opportunities to get back in the game, with Ardley keeper Jack Harding easily holding Ollie Lynch’s speculative shot.
The hosts extended their advantage on 58 minutes. Brooks, who caused problems for the the visitors’ defence throughout, squared the ball for Troy Bryan to fire in.
Brooks made it 3-0 on 64 minutes from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Ellis Hercules.
Ben Thomas, who was starting his first game after a long spell out through injury, sealed victory with No 4 on 89 minutes after being set up by Ollie Stanbridge following substitute Harry Brock’s cross.
Lynch replied for Thame, forcing home at the near post following a Taylor Collins corner, but the damage was done.
On Saturday, Ardley travel to Cheltenham Saracens in Uhsport Hellenic League Premier Division.
