ROWING: Oxford's shining star Carnegie to benefit from sports award

Prospective Olympic competitor Sholto Carnegie, from Oxford, has been selected to receive a £1,000 SportsAid award from Asda and join the firm’s Active Athletes class of 2013.
The 18-year-old, who is a member of Oxford City RC has been selected by SportsAid in recognition of his outstanding performances over the past 12 months as one of the best emerging talents in the UK.
Carnegie whose ambition is to compete for Britain in the 2020 Olympics was selected for Great Britain at Coupe de la Jeunesse, the international rowing regatta for U18, in 2012.
Because of his talent, he now rows at Marlow RC with other outstanding juniors.
Over the past five years, more than 2,150 young elite athletes have been chosen to join the Asda Athletes scheme.
The programme, run in partnership with the charity SportsAid, whose patron is the Duchess of Cambridge, aims to help the next generation of sporting talent on their pathway to future success.
