MOTORSPORT: Taranov clinches Scorpio drive

IVAN Taranov has been confirmed as one of the Scorpio Motorsport drivers for the upcoming Protyre Formula Renault season.
The 18-year-old Bellerbys College student, from Oxford, who hails from Russia, joins Brazilian racer Henrique Baptista in the 2008 and 2009 championship-winning team.
Scorpio are still in discussion with several drivers regarding a possible third seat as they eyes a sustained title challenge.
Taranov enters his third season in the category and is likely to be a true title contender.
Having switched to Scorpio for the final two rounds of last season’s championship, he made a significant impact on his debut by securing a career-best top-four finish in the last race – just missing out on a maiden podium by a mere 0.9 seconds.
The result also helped him end in the coveted top ten of the driver standings.
