Oxford City’s (from left): Roy Treadwell, John Exley and Allan Matthews
ROY Treadwell battled back to claim the British Masters Athletic Federation (BMAF) vet 65 cross country title at Herrington Country Park, Sunderland.
Oxford City’s Treadwell was 40 metres adrift in fifth place after the first of three laps on the 6.2km course.
But he pulled back the leaders, including former champion Peter Young (Ryde), to lie second on the final lap.
Treadwell then passed Martin Ford (Cheltenham) to take the title by nine seconds, clocking 25mins 3secs.
With John Exley (26.36) and Allan Matthews (27.55) finishing fifth and 14th respectively, City also won the team title.
Radley’s Rose Webb (42.13) finished third in the vet 65 ladies’ category.
City’s Stewart Thorp came fifth in a very strong vet 60 race, completing the 8.5km course in 34.39.
Vet 60 winner Mike Hager (Tipton Harriers) clocked 30.10 – faster than anyone in the aged 50 and 55 categories.
- ABINGDON Amblers’ Suzanne Beardsmore was the first lady home in the Enfield League Half Marathon race walk.
Beardsmore completed the event around Hillingdon Cycle Circuit in 2hrs 15mins 34secs.
She beat Cath Duhig (Ryston Runners) to win by ten minutes, finishing sixth overall.
