SCHOOLS' FOOTBALL: St Leonard's Wembley bid foiled

St Leonard’s (Banbury) saw their Wembley dreams shattered in the Southern final of the npower Football League Under 13 Kids Cup.

Representing Oxford United, they endured a nightmare journey to the Kingsmeadow Athletics Centre, Kingston Upon Thames, after being stuck in traffic on the A3 for three hours following a serious accident.

When they finally arrived, St Leonard’s had to play their group games in quick succession, losing 3-1 to Northampton and 1-0 to Gillingham, before drawing 1-1 against Wycombe Wanderers.

Tomasz Sroda scored both of St Leonard’s goals.

KYRAN Lofthouse hit a first-half hat-trick to set Oxford Academy on the way to a 5-0 win at Wallingford in the Oxfordshire Under 12 Cup second round.

Luke Elliott and Twariq Yusuf also netted.
