BOXING: Ward loses in national finals

GERARD Ward was out of luck in the National Schoolboys Championships finals at Everton Park Sports Centre, Liverpool.
The Berinsfield boxer was beaten by Gregory Lunt, from Stoke in the eagerly-anticipated class 1 (born 2000) under 48kg final.
Cheered on by a huge following from the club, Ward started well and was toe-to-toe with his rival in the early stages.
But he was unhappy with two interventions from the referee, who gave him standing eight counts, handing his opponent victory.
