Bicester welterweight Daza Usher warmed up for his clash with tough Irishman Andrew Patterson at Swindon on Saturday, March 9 by hosting an open sparring session at the town’s boxing club.

The work-out was conducted under the tutelage of former USSR boxing champion and Olympic team member, Islan Eltuyev.

It was attended by several of the Home Counties’ most talented professional boxers, including Southern Area Super middleweight Champion Kelvin Young, undefeated cruiserweight prospect Lawrence Bennett, and lightweight puncher Joe Beeden as well as Usher.

The boxers are all signed up to KM Promotions and will be featuring on the Swindon card.

After several rounds on the punchbags and focus mitts, the team of boxers were instructed to gear up for some sparring.

Usher, who is six weeks into an eight-week training camp, and is also Bicester’s head coach, said he was relishing next month’s clash.

He said: “I am putting in a massive amount of hard work for the fight.

“Patterson is a tough Irishman who has boxed many of the countries best welterweights, so I need to be in the best shape possible.

“I am pleased to make this step up in class after winning my previous four contests, and I don't intend to give up my undefeated record without a fight.”

Usher added: “We are proud to host this crop of talented boxers.

“The gym has been open for two years now and we are already producing top-class boxers.

“To have a team of professional boxers come in and train with the lads will only help to improve their knowledge within the boxing ring, as well as push them on to fulfil their potential.

“This experience will be a vital part to their development.”
