Richards set to miss Fleetwood clash

Oxford United are set to be without Justin Rich-ards as they attempt to halt a four-game winless run at home to Fleetwood Town tonight.

The striker was forced off with a knee injury following a clash in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Bristol Rovers.

He had a scan yesterday, but even before the results were known, tonight’s npower League Two game is likely to come too soon.

It is a blow for the U’s, whose top scorer Tom Craddock is also still out with a groin injury.

Alfie Potter, who came on for Richards, is one option, while Josh Parker, who impressed as a substitute against Rovers, and Deane Smalley are also in contention.

A 3-0 defeat at Fleetwood last month ended United’s strong run and began their four-game streak without a win.

The display was out of character with their other recent performances and boss Chris Wilder is determined the Cod Army will see a different side in the return game.

“We made it far too easy for them and we were disappointed with our standards on the day,” he said.

“That was a one-off. We didn’t deserve anything at Fleetwood. It wasn’t good enough from the first minute to the 94th minute.

“I’m 100 per cent certain we should have taken more from the last three games, but you have to go and make it happen.”

United’s one big problem in their recent run has been converting their chances, with just one goal scored in six hours of football.

Wilder believes just one strike, however scrappy or fortuitous, could make all the difference.

He said: “You watch the goals on a Saturday night and some that go in are ridiculous.

“We might need a touch of that – where it flies in off somebody, something that gets us going.”

Fleetwood have injury concerns of their own, with striker Jon Parkin a doubt after suffering a hamstring injury after scoring in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Torquay.

Gareth Evans and Shaun Beeley could also miss out.

United are confident the game will go ahead, although the pitch will be heavy.

Oxford Utd: from McCormick, Batt, Raynes, Wright, Davis, Chapman, Montrose, Capaldi, Potter, Constable, Rigg, Smalley, Parker, Heslop, Whing, Worley, O’Brien, Crocombe.

Fleetwood Tn: from Davies, Howell, Atkinson, Goodall, Brown, McLaughlin, McGuire, McKenna, Crowther, Matt, Fontaine, Ball, Gyorio, Milligan, Barry, Charnock, Lucas, Pond.

It's no loss, CW has a bunch of Donkeys who ought to be on the beach anyways, no speed, no tactical awareness and no chance.

Time to go and lets bring someone in with nous who knows this division, Yates for example.

I think Mark Yates would be a great choice, but realistically would he want to come to Oxford? Also, if he is contracted to Cheltenham beyond this season then I do not think IL would pay out the remainder of the contract - too expensive! If CW's contract is up at the end of the year and we are still in Div 4 he needs to go, but will IL sack him? CW will not resign, unless another club comes in for him, and how likely is that based upon results this season.

At the moment, our lot wouldn't score with a nymphomaniac!!!!!!!!
!!!
The only netting that will be 'bulging' tonight will be my fishnet jock strap! Put Parker up front? The only Parker with 'drive' is Lady bluddy Penelope's chauffer! And Richards? Wendy bleedin' Richards had more clout than him!
Rant over; can we have a bluddy win tonight please, because I'm starting to get a funny twitch!

There are 9 home League games left with Wilder in charge the gate is going to be 1.5-2k down on those of last season (and that is being optimistic). Going on the higher end of that scale 9 x 2,000 = 18,000 less "customers" through the door. Add 50/50 tickets, programmes you are looking a approximately £200,000 in lost revenue. The question always asked is can we afford to get rid of Wilder? It should be can we afford not to?

Knowing that Richards is injured, the first thing Wilder should have done after the final whistle was to get n to the phone to the Staines manager and ask for Tyrone back. Knowing how shoddily this club is run, there probably isn't even a recall option.

I wouldn't put it past Wilder to play the donkey Worley up front from the start today.

What is sad is Wilder's time at the club will be remembered for the absolute dross that has been produced both this season and the back end of last.

Had he gone (walked or pushed) sooner he may have been remembered more fondly as the man who took a club from the brink of oblivion - remember where we were when he took over? - to a side that almost made the play-offs in League Two but were sadly found wanting as they ran out of steam. He has given us some of our finest moments and best memoires of the last 10-15 or so years. He's also served up some of the worst.

Sadly the last 12 months have been just as divisive and corrosive as the years preceeding him. He's been lucky that there is still some degree of respect for his past achievements, but this is receding faster than our waifer thin play-off hopes.

Even his pals like BYS and his even bigger pal are silent!! Where are you when CW needs you?

Chances of being in the third division next season are rather slim (!!) - depressing!!

You have it right again Manor Born, we cant afford to keep Wilder, this loss should have IL booting him out before morning but i doubt he will. He will let him stay until last match of the season then show him the door but he should be asking himself how much damage will be done by then, the gates will fall more rapidly now and no player half decent will want to come here next season no matter who the manager is. Richards should be sent back so too Montrose and that saves some wages probably £3000 a week ? , As you say bring back Marsh ( if we can) and play him regularly and maybe Crocombe too at least it will blood them for next season. Lenaghan should be looking seriously for a buyer as his motive for running this club are all wrong, he shows no interest in the playing side of things, if he did he would be doing something about this dreadful slide, we really could get very close to relegation if this is allowed to continue or maybe worse!
