ATHLETICS: Gain races to shock bronze

OXFORD City’s David Gain won a shock bronze medal in the 200m final at the British Athletics Trials and UK Championships at Sheffield, writes STUART WEIR.

After finishing fourth in a time of 21.62secs, it looked as if Gain had missed out on a medal by 0.02 seconds.

But Nathan Selby was then disqualified to promote Gain, who had earlier won his heat, to third.

Carolyn Plateau, formerly of Radley, finished fifth in the final of the 800m in a personal best of 2.06.19.

There were two Radley athletes in the men’s 60m hurdles, with Ashley Johnson coming third in the B final. Richard Baderin was fifth in the same race.

Meanwhile, Olympic high jump bronze medallist Robbie Grabarz achieved a season’s best effort, clearing 2.31m before failing in an attempt to set a new British record.
