FOOTBALL: Clinical Ardley close gap on Marlow

Ardley United closed the gap at the top of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division with a 3-1 win at Binfield on Saturday.

Goals from Nick Thorne, Steve Howkins and Joe Eyre saw Kevin Brock’s side move to within ten points of table-toppers Marlow. James Suarez replied for the hosts.

Letcombe fought back from 2-0 down to draw 4-4 with Old Woodstock Town in Division 1 West.

James Lambert and Lewis Coyle put Woodstock 2-0 up, only for Tom Stone and Mark Denny to level.

Craig Robinson restored Woodstock’s lead with a penalty, before Adam Bruce’s spot- kick for Letcombe was saved by Steve Dennett.

Robinson made it 4-2 with his second penalty, but Adam Pendell and an own goal saw Letcombe grab a point.

Carterton thrashed New College Swindon 5-2, with goals from Michael Duerden (2), Jamie Macdonagh, James Fleming and Ben Fitzmartin.

Clanfield recorded their biggest win of the season, a 5-0 success at Lambourn Sports, with strikes from Bradley Bryant (2), Dan Bishop, Craig Mays and Olly Oswin.

Alex Feaver hit a five-timer as Chinnor thrashed Milton United 9-2 in Division 1 East. James Essex (2), Stuart Braun and Dan Stone completed the rout.

Goals from Luke Cuff and Yannick Nkwanyuo were in vain as Headington Amateurs lost 3-2 at Woodley, for whom Sam Cripps, Matt Godwin and Nick Edwards were on target.
