MOTORSPORT: Rising star Elliot needs cash injection

ONE of the most promising young karting stars in the country may have to stall his burgeoning career due to a shortage of funds, writes Michael Knox.

Didcot’s Elliot Harvey, 11, has won dozens of major trophies, often competing against drivers older than himself.

Now that career could be put on hold unless he can secure between £10,000 and £20,000 of sponsorship.

His parents, Andy and Julie Harvey, have financed his career so far.

“We have now hit a really big problem and like so many before we have run out of funding,” said Julie.

“The move up to the Rotax class was a bigger financial burden than we thought.

“The increased cost of just racing has made it almost impossible for us to continue racing in 2013.

“Elliot had secured a drive with a works team this year and they are keeping this place open for him because they believe he has what it takes to be a success.

“We are now looking for sponsors, who would be willing to work with us for 2013 and beyond.”

Elliot, who goes to St Birinus School, Didcot, dreams of becoming a professional driver in touring cars or Le Mans-style endurance.

Those interested in sponsoring him can contact newlookdidcot@aol.com.
