Carruthers (6-1) put up a gutsy display to land the William Hill West Wales National at Ffos Las on Saturday.

The ten-year-old, trained by Mark Bradstock at Letcombe Bassett yard, near Wantage, dug deep for amateur jockey Nico de Boinville to beat Cannington Brook by two and a quarter lengths after making all the running.

ASTON Rowant trainer Lawney Hill saddled Billy Twyford (7-1) to claim a last-gasp success under David Bass in a handicap hurdle at Wetherby.

SUPERIOR Quality (10-1) made the 674-mile round trip from Charlie Longsdon’s Chipping Norton yard to Musselburgh yesterday pay off by landing the Albert Bartlett Scottish Trial under Noel Fehily.
