ANGLING: Heather's ahead of her hubby

Heather Wearing, from Kidlington, had a day to remember at Lechlade Trout Fishery, catching two double-figure fish, including this clonker of 15.6.0.

The massive rainbow and a 10lb brownie came from Lechlade Lake and fell for a black nomad fly on a floating line with a 4ft leader.

The two fish were by far the biggest Heather has caught, a three-pounder being her previous best, but she is also a dab hand at salmon fishing, having caught specimens to 16lb.

Husband Roy was also fishing that day, but could not match his wife’s feat and had to make do with a couple of nine-pounders – no mean effort in itself.

Heather, who fishes Lechlade about once a month, admitted there is a little bit of rivalry with her husband.

She said: “There is a bit of competition between us, but I’m in the lead now!”
