ANGLING: Single perch is enough for Dave

North Oxford AS were forced to transfer their Wally Harper Shield match from the Cherwell to the Oxford Canal at King’s Bridge due to the floods and once again, the fishing was tough for the 14 anglers.

A single perch of 1.5.0 on chopped worm was enough for Dave Scott-Picton to secure the silverware.

Steve Foster caught ten small fish on maggot for eight ounces and second place, followed by Karl Beauchamp with 0.4.8.

North Oxford permits for this season are now available in tackle shops at half-price.

It was a similar story in the Tackley Estates AC match on the canal at Heyford, where seven fished.

Anthony Alder needed only 14 ounces to win, followed by Stephen Malone with 11oz and Frank Malone with 4oz.

The canal fished better for the 12 anglers in the Masons AC points match at Aristotle Lane, where Bob Yeomans fished pole and chopped worm to catch perch, small skimmers and roach for a decent winning 6.5.0.

Martin Robinson used a five-metre whip with punched bread or pinkie to catch skimmers and small perch for a second-placed 4.1.0, and third was Denis Patrick, who alternated between whip and pole for 3.9.0 of roach and perch.
