Pete Hall helped Chequers to a convincing victory
DEFENDING Greene King ODDA Premier Section champions Chequers Inn A returned from the Christmas break in fantastic form as they thrashed Kidlington Green Social Club 8-1 in a match which contained seven maximums.
The visitors got away to a flying start.
Ade Larner and Jon Jukes claimed two 180s apiece, while Pete Hall and Aaran Stevens (180) also hit form to give them a 4-0 lead.
Mark Burns beat Stuart Dutton (180) to get the hosts on the board, but the Chequers marched on and John Russell’s win gave them a 5-1 lead.
A 3-0 pairs win completed the rout. Peachcroft Social Club staged a superb comeback at home to see off Ampleforth Arms C in an all-Section 1 clash.
Michael Wilkes gave Peachcroft a good start by beating Nigel Hodge, but the visitors came storming back.
Wins from Steve Coling (180) Alan Eckart(180) Paul Bustin and Alan Stimpson(180) gave them a 4-1 lead.
On the brink of defeat, Steve Wilkes began the Peachcroft fightback when he beat Dave Witherwick.
The home side’s pairs went on to win 3-0, clinching a 5-4 win overall.
There was also a dramatic turnaround in Section 2, where the Red Lion entertained Kidlington Green Social Club.
The hosts led 2-1 as Jason Coates and Steve Willoughby’s wins sandwiched a victory for Andy Burns.
The Green Club hit back to lead 4-2 after wins from Dean Lockyer, Clinton Cantwell and John Fowler.
But the pairs again proved crucial, as the Red Lion took a clean sweep to seal a 5-4 win.
A good start helped The George Bar A ease to a 6-3 victory at Corner House B.
After taking the opening three games the visitors were always in charge.
Trevor Ballard and Mark Kennett won for Corner House either side of Barry Wells’s success to trim the lead to 4-2.
But the George went on to win the pairs 2-1 for a comfortable win.
In the Ladies’ league, newly-promoted Donnington Community Centre A gained their first Section 1 win of the season, at home to Berinsfield Community Centre.
They trailed four times in the match, but each time responded to level and a win in the final pairs match claimed a 5-4 victory for Donnington.
