TENNIS: Superb Sports surge ahead
11:00am Friday 11th January 2013 in Sport
OXFORD Sports marched on at the top of the Men’s Division 1 table in the Thames Valley Winter League.
Sports’ 7-1 victory over Witney sees them unbeaten at the halfway point, and well ahead of their nearest rivals.
Woodstock went above Witney into fourth with a 7-1 win over North Oxford B.
Honours were even when Blewbury and Cholsey met in Division 4, the near-rivals drawing 4-4.
But it is not so close in Division 7, where Woodstock C beat Appleton C 8-0 to stay well ahead of their promotion rivals now having won 42 of the 45 sets this season.
Benson’s 8-0 win over North Oxford B and Banbury’s 8-0 victory against North Oxford D ensured the duo lead the charge for promotion in Ladies’ Division 2.
Witney lost ground after being held to a 4-4 draw by Woodstock B.
In Division 3, leaders Brackley suffered a 5-3 defeat away at bottom club Thame, which allowed second-placed Port-cullis to close the gap with a 5-3 win over Shiplake.
