RACING: Longsdon delighted with Pete The Feat

Charlie Longsdon was full of praise for Pete The Feat as the 15-8 favourite rattled off a fantastic five-timer in the Betfred Mandarin Handicap Chase at Newbury on Saturday, writes Russell Smith.

The Chipping Norton trainer saddled two runners in the long-established race, with last year's winner, Rey Nacarado, snatching third.

But it was Pete The Feat, running off a handicap mark 31lbs higher than his first success this season, who made all the running under Noel Fehily to finish five lengths clear of Relax.

“He has been a revelation,” said Longsdon. “He has been an absolute star. I have never had a horse that has won five in a row.

“He just gallops and gallops them into the ground. I never thought he would get this far.

“This was a bonus. He has won five and now we will have to look for another bonus.”
