Ben Roberts starred with a gold and two silver medals in the Badminton England Oxfordshire tournament at Abingdon’s White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre.

Roberts, from Brize Norton, won the under 15 boy’s doubles with Ethan Colby (Berkshire) after a 24-22 final victory.

He earlier teamed up with Drayton’s Molly Naylor to bag mixed doubles silver and also finished runner-up iin the boys’ singles.

Naylor and Oxon’s Louise Atkins took girls’ doubles bronze, with Darcie Walker, another home player, claiming girls’ singles bronze on a successful Saturday.

On Sunday, Oxfordshire’s Ethan Rose won under 11 boys’ doubles gold with Alex Green (Surrey) who he lost to in the singles’ final.

Safia Khimji, of Abingdon, secured bronze in the girls singles.

Joe Roberts, Ben’s elder brother, won an under 17 boys’ singles bronze at the Wiltshire tournament in Melksham.

He and Ashley Garrison, of Witney, then took their second gold of the season in the boys doubles’ final, beating Liam Silliphant and William Bick, of Cornwall, 21-16.

l OXFORDSHIRE 2nd got off to a flying start against Worcestershire 3rd in Division 4 of the England County Championships with a 9-6 victory at Bartholomew School.

Singles wins from James Barclay, Phil Philip Sayer, Kathryn Schutterlin and Amy Lawson saw Oxon take a 4-0 lead.

Barclay and Peter Browning, plus Sayer and Paul Casey, halved their men’s doubles before Casey and Sayer narrowly lost their second match.

Schutterlin and Clare Hamilton, plus Alison Ross and Lawson also earned ladies’ doubles halves to secure victory.

Oxon were denied all three points as only Ross and Barclay claimed a mixed win.
