Holders Highfield Social Club were given a mighty fright by visitors Sporting Headington Academicals before scraping home 4-3 in a thrilling Oxfordshire FA Sam Waters Sunday Cup second-round tie, writes TIM SIRET.

Murray Nicholls and Dan Sweeney scored twice for Highfield, but Academicals, who play in Critchleys UTV League Division 2, pushed them all the way thanks to James Titler’s double and a Ben Wright goal.

In the third round on December 2, Highfield are at home to Kidlington Royals in a repeat of last season’s final.

Louis Joyce fired a five-timer in AFC Jericho’s 7-2 home demolition of Chinnor Exiles. Aston Shaw and Marley Joseph were also on target for Jericho.

Freeland Yeoman came from behind to record a 4-2 home success over Iffley Harriers.

Richard Trigg’s double plus strikes from Nathan Blackwell and Simon Calley gave Freeland victory after Leon Carter’s brace had put Iffley 2-1 ahead.

UTV Division 1 side Northway Boys & Girls caused an upset with a 2-1 win away to depleted Premier outfit Yellow Eagles.

The hosts started with only ten players, and after injuries, limped out of the competition with just eight on the field.

Eagles’ goal came from Ben Crawford, but strikes from Joe Jacobs and Liam O’Sullivan won the tie for Northway.
