SCHOOLS' FOOTBALL: Super Shamsi fires up City

Rav Shamsi hit his second successive hat-trick in the ESFA Under 15 Trophy as Oxford City powered to a 5-3 win over South London in the third round at Oxford Academy.

The visitors opened the scoring, but James McCarthy levelled with a powerful effort and Shamsi, whose treble gave Oxford a 3-1 victory at Islington & Camden in the second round, put them ahead.

South London equalised on the stroke of half-time, but Shamsi restored Oxford’s lead in the second half.

Oxford were pegged back again, however, Anton Mundy’s superb run set up Declan Stokes to make it 4-3, and Shamsi completed his hat-trick to seal victory and a trip to Blackheath or St Albans in the last 32.

Holders Vale of White Horse let a two-goal lead slip to bow out 4-3 against Barking & Dagenham at the Fairlop Powerleague, Ilford.

Barking opened the scoring, but Vale hit back with a David Willcox header and a Joel Thompson effort giving them a half-time lead.

Tervel Atanasov fired the visitors further ahead early in the second half.

But Barking struck twice midway through the half to level, and after Vale keeper Connor Johns saved a penalty, the hosts grabbed the winner two minutes from time.

VALE of White Horse swept aside Hackney & Tower Hamlets 4-1 in the ESFA Under 13 Trophy second round at Milton United.

James Darling’s long-range strike after three minutes was fumbled into the net by the Hackney keeper for the opener, before Tom Morris increased Vale’s lead with a 20-yard strike.

Vale made it 3-0 before the break when Nathan Baker’s glancing header went in off a defender.

Brendan Wiredu reduced the deficit midway through the second half.

But Vale restored their three-goal cushion almost immediately when Kieran Kerby fired home from close range to clinch a place in the last 32 away to South London or Portsmouth.
