OCA presentation night

EAST Oxford collected the Division 1 trophy from former England all-rounder Phillip DeFreitas at the OCA League’s annual presentation evening at Drayton Park Golf Club, writes KIEREN BUSHNELL.

Captain Ali Malik picked up the prize along with his teammates after they won the title on the final day of the season.

The club have applied for the Cherwell League in 2013, and they were wished well in their bid.

They collected the trophy to a standing ovation from the 150-strong audience, which included Cherwell League chairman Clive Ricks, secretary Dick Giles and OCB chairman Chris Clements.

DeFreitas entertained the audience with some stories of his 20-year professional career, before handing out the trophies to divisional winners, runners-up and cup winners.

Chadlington were the night’s other major winners, as they collected both the Division 2 trophy and the Airey Cup, while Freddie Simon was named as the OCA League’s young player of the year.

The batsman of the year award went to Kidlington’s Tom Bozman.

He helped Kidlington to a Division 6 and Steve Dixon Cup double, scoring more than 550 runs during an impressive season.

Another double went to league newcomers Cowley, who lifted the Division 11 title and the Keith Crump Centenary Cup.

The bowler of the year was Wolvercote’s Simon Burns, whose 31 wickets at an average of under seven was all the more remarkable as he missed a third of the season through injury.

Special awards were given to Brill, who were the league’s “Fair Play” winners in 2012, while Westcott were handed the Morris Honey Trophy for the most improved ground.
