BOXING: Berinsfield big guns lead way
11:00am Saturday 27th October 2012 in Sport
Experienced duo Kophie Fisher and Eric Child starred for Berinsfield ABC in their first open show of the season with stoppage wins over their opponents.
Fisher forced the referee to give Oxford University’s David Waye a standing count in the third round of their clash at the hosts’ gym.
He then unloaded a straight left, giving the referee no option but to call a halt to the fight.
Child had the crowd on their feet as his straighter punching and flurries of combinations stopped Steve Driver, from Morden’s Small Holdings ABC, in the second round.
Berinsfield’s Mark McDonagh showed flair and accuracy to outpoint Portland’s Terry Jarvis in their junior bout.
Joseph Bodell, from the host club, also recorded a points victory in his schoolboy contest against Hemel Hempstead’s Charlie Scrimshire.
Berinsfield’s Chloe Gorringe stepped into the ring for the first time, taking part in a skills contest with Liala Hargrave, of Southampton ABC.
