ATHLETICS: Brilliant Burgess stars at awards

Edward Burgess won the under 17 track and club male athlete award at Bicester AC’s summer presentation night at Bicester Rugby Club.
Burgess was a national grade 1 performer at the 110 metre hurdles, with his best performance coming in the English Schools Championships where he was pipped for a medal in the final.
His club athlete award was earned by his contribution to coaching the younger athletes and mentoring many of them in competitions.
Holly Griffiths Brown took the under 11 field athlete accolade for two second places in league events, which included a 3.62m effort in the long jump.
Tom Couzens was the under 11 field event winner for his 38.52m throws in the hammer and 3.77m leap in the long jump.
Jess Cherry won the under 15 field event award, breaking a long-standing club record by putting the shot 8.91 metres (national grade 3) and notching a grade-four effort in the triple jump of 10.06 metres.
Rhiannon Penfold was the under 13 girl track performer of the year for her national grade four performances.
Long-jumper Connor Wilce won the male under 15 field performance of the year.
Mark Smith produced national grade displays in the 400m and 800m to take the under 15 track award.
