FOOTBALL: It's last-gasp agony for slipshod Ardley
11:00am Thursday 25th October 2012 in Sport
Ardley United had to settle for a share of the spoils as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division leaders Marlow on Saturday.
With a minute to go, it looked as though the hosts would take the victory, only for Michael Bartley to level.
Early on, Ardley’s Troy Bryan went close with a header, while at the other end, Ben Gladwin hit the bar.
Joe Coleman then saw his lob go over the Marlow bar.
The hosts kept up the pressure and were rewarded when they went ahead on 21 minutes.
Bryan worked his way along the byeline, before his cross saw Jon Gardner tap in at the far post.
After the break, the visitors came more into the game, with Joe White in the Ardley goal pushing Gladwin’s shot around a post.
Marlow levelled in the final minute when Bartley headed home Gladwin’s cross.
Ian Davis nearly won it for the visitors in injury time, but fired wide of an open goal.
