Darren Patterson has announced his retained list at Oxford United

Craig McAllister, Justin Richards, Jamie Hand, Carl Pettefer and Danny Rose have all been told they will not be offered a deal with The U's next season, as have Rob Duffy and Michael Blackwood

The club are in discussions with Eddie Anaclet, and Matt Day to stay with the club, and would very much like to discuss signing Matt Green on a permanent basis when his contract at Cardiff ends. Eddie Hutchinson, Joel Ledgister and Alex Jeannin remain on the transfer list.

Mickey Howard has returned to Morecambe after his loan spell but the club hope to speak to him again over the summer.

Young striker Matt Taylor has also been offered a new contract.

Darren said: "It has been a hard few days. Some tough decisions have had to be made, made harder by the fact that they are all smashing lads. In the end it comes down to two factors really.

The financial restraints from the wage cap mean we have to make money available to bring in new players. We finished the season strongly but ninth place is eight places lower than we would like to be next time.

"But the biggest consideration has to be purely from a football point of view. I have targeted the players I would like to bring in and am excited about the prospects already. We will work hard all summer to bring the right players in. Hopefully Eddie, Matt Day and Matt Green will want to be a part of what we are trying to achieve.

"I'd like to thank every one of the players for their efforts, especially towards the end of this season. I think we have a strong core to next season's squad and wish those we have let go all the best for the future."

Like it or not the only way to stop the rot is to get shot of the lot as this club will go to pot until we got someone hot to sign on the dot.

How many of those players will come back to bite us on the arse? Duffy, Big Mac and Jamie Hand will all probably score or destroy us next year. Other than that no real surprises, im a little disappointed about Danny Rose, I really liked him!!

If we were always worried about that, we'd never release anyone and have a squad of about 4000!!! Stop being a wimp!

No suprises for me- although I think Danny Rose would be more suited to a higher League? Hopefully Green will stay?

Does this mean that Yemi is off the list? Duffy is lazy, Pettefer is not up to scratch, Rose not physical enough for the BSP and is probably on big wages so good work there Patto. Hopefully Steady Eddie and Green will stay too. Bit suprised that some of the other loanees haven't been offered new contracts e.g. Hand and Macca but I think Patto must have plenty of irons in the fire.

I'm suprised that Jamie Hand is not being retained, I thought him and Adam Murray have formed a good partnership in central midfield.

Yemi is still under contract for next season, so whether he is on or off the transfer list he is still on the books.

What about Wilmott?

Likewise sad to see Rose go, Hand I was surprised, all others not a great loss really, hopefully some fool will buy Jeannin.

What about Murray, I thought he was a loan star same as big Al, or was that short term?

shame to see danny rose go but he has never had any real chances in the last 2 seasons
mccalister scored 1st game up but really what else did he do
jamie hand put himself around a bit too much so with him in mid field alongside murray you then have two midfielders that would collect 20 plus bookings a season could we afford that with such a small squad
hopefully the big announcements coming soon ie ground purchase any guess which very local GLOBAL motor company ? will propel us back into where we belong

sad to see Danny Roase go and I thought that McAllister linked up play really well and this seemed to compliment Yemi's play. I would hope that Patterson has got someone similar waiting in the wings.

It is certainly a lot of money to cut from the wage bill and is quite ruthless. But that is one of the challenges in this league; you can't let players just sit in the reserve team until their performance improves, there just isn;t the budget with the wage cap.

Shocked about Hand going personally I think he's slightly better than Murray. When Murray came I thought he looked ordinary for the 1st few games before Hand was brought in and played alongside him. Central midfield wise he must have alot of irons in fire there cos he only has Murray left really. Not suprised about the others tho.
