THE father of the motorcyclist seriously injured in a crash with a school bus has said he hopes the teenager will make a quick recovery.

Lee Cannon spoke yesterday as his son Callum, known as CJ, was being treated in hospital following the collision on the A415 in Ducklington near Witney.

He said: "It was touch and go but CJ is now off a ventilator and breathing on his own. We're hoping he can make a full and speedy recovery."

His 17-year-old son was on his way to Abingdon & Witney College, where he is studying to be an electrician, on Monday morning when he was involved in the crash.

Shortly before 8am he collided with a Cokethorpe School bus and was knocked off his bike.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with a broken pelvis, femur, ruptured spleen and a break in his spine.

Mr Cannon, who lives in Wantage with wife Louise and CJ, said they were hoping to find out more about his injuries but said thankfully they didn't appear to be life-threatening.

He said: "Luckily he was wearing all his protective clothing because I make sure he does. He has been riding a bike for about 18 months but he's only had this one for about three-weeks."

He said the family had received a huge amount of support from friends and relatives and said CJ's girlfriend Rhiannon had been to visit him in hospital.

Mr Cannon added: "Our thanks go out to the paramedics and police who responded quickly And thanks to all his friends and family who have been great supporting us,thoughts also go out to his girlfriend,Rhiannon and her family who have been tremendous, and here's to a speedy recovery son."

The road was shut in both directions while the bike and debris were cleared and the headteacher of Cokethorpe, Damian Ettinger, said he hoped the teenager made a quick recovery.

Mr Ettinger said on Monday that neither the driver of the bus nor the eight children on board were injured in the collision
