ONE of today’s torch bearers is unlikely to be troubled by the pace as he jogs through Oxford.
Witney Road Runners member Ian Fowler is used to covering far greater distances than he will undertake in Cuddesdon Way, Blackbird Leys.
The 46-year-old, from Burwell Meadow, Witney, marshals local events and helps out with his club’s youth section.
He said: “I work for AC Neilsen in Headington who are the market research company for the Olympics and Paralympics and they had a couple of places for torch bearers and asked for nominations.
“I thought it would go to people who had brought in lots of business and revenue for the company, so I was shocked to be nominated and absolutely gobsmacked to then be chosen.
“As the day has got closer the excitement has been building, especially when the kit was delivered last week.”
Mr Fowler’s mother Susan Gardias said: “I’m so, so proud of him.
“In his life he has achieved so much. He just gives, he doesn’t take.
“Whatever is wanted, Ian will give it to you. He’s the sort of person who will give 110 per cent in everything he does.”
