GARDENERS are being urged to get digging and planting for Bicester’s annual Best Back Garden competition.

Bicester councillor Les Sibley is calling for people to show off their hard work and celebrate the back gardens so often unnoticed by visitors.

One couple who are avid gardeners and take pride in pruning their plants and flowers are Simon and Debbie Ford of Derwent Road.

Mrs Ford said: “We entered the back garden competition as it’s my husband’s passion, hence why he’s now self employed doing garden and property maintenance as SJF Garden and property services.

“We entered the competition back in 2009 and have entered every year trying to have something new for each year.

“People’s back gardens are private but we love our garden and love to show, it’s our little piece of paradise where we can unwind and relax.”

The family boast a pond, hot tub area and greenhouse and are constantly adding new elements to keep things fresh.

People can sign up to the competition to be in with the chance to win a gold, silver or bronze award together with garden vouchers and a certificate.

Mr Sibley said the competition will run from today to the end of August.
