COULD you be the next knight in shining armour to run the Oxford Mail OX5 Run on Sunday?

From a returning Minion to a hive of buzzing bees, many creatures and characters have taken part in the popular five mile run over the last 15 years.

But this year the Oxford Mail hopes runners' imaginations will run wild and the start line will be peppered with runners in fancy dress.

Last year a mum from Banbury pulled out all the superhero stops for her young son Jack Wolstencroft-Stone, who suffers from painful juvenile arthritis but regular treatment from the hospital has helped him to run around as normal.

His mum Tracy completed the course in an Incredible Hulk outfit, finishing in just over an hour.

Speaking after the run she said: "It was really hard but it feels so good to have done it.

"The hospital is like a second home for us and Jack loves it there - the staff have been amazing.

"There were so many people at Blenheim and it clearly means so much to a lot of people."

The run also knows no age boundaries, with the oldest participant in 2016 an impressive 80 years old.

More than 1,000 people have already signed up for the run at Blenheim Palace on Sunday at 10.30am.

Last year’s event raised £106,000 for Oxford Children’s Hospital and the run has chalked up more than £850,000 over the years.

More than 70 miles have been ran so far which means that £12,142 has been raised per mile.

The money raised is used to fund medical equipment and other aspects of children’s care.

Entry costs £20 and fundraisers are encouraging participants to raise at least £150 for the cause.
