MORE THAN 2,000 patients are still on the register at a Bicester surgery with just days left before its closure.

Health bosses are urging people at the North Bicester Surgery to re-register as a matter of urgency before it closes it doors.

About half of the practice's patients have signed on at other surgeries in Bicester but thousands still remain on the register at the Barberry Place site.

Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group head of primary care and localities Julie Dandridge said: "We are working closely with North Bicester Surgery to help them support all their patients during this time of change.

"As part of this work, we are appealing to people to take action and transfer to a new practice before the end of the month.

"This is a simple process of filling in a form from the new practice and should not take much time at all."

The Bicester Advertiser ran a story in July which revealed the surgery was set to close, which was understood to be a result of two of three GPs at the surgery retiring.

This was later confirmed by the North Bicester Surgery but it added that national GP contract changes had also mad it unviable to stay open.

The surgery announced it was to close its doors to patients on Friday, September 30.

Since then the practice has been working with patients to transfer them to one of the other four GP surgeries in Bicester: The Health Centre in Coker Close, Victoria House in Buckingham Road, Langford Medical Practice in Nightingale Place and Montgomery House Surgery in Piggy Lane.

Watchdog Healthwatch Oxfordshire previously said one of the main concerns across the county was surgery waiting lists and urged people to get re-registered as soon as possible.

NHS England head of primary care commissioning Ginny Hope said: "NHS England will continue to work with Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group and North Bicester Surgery to ensure the smooth transfer of patient care and records and those patients with more complex conditions are supported as they look to move to alternative GP practices."

Following the closure, Victoria House Surgery and Langford Medical Practice will merge in October.

Two new GPs are joining the Langford practice and the surgeries will join under the name of Alchester Medical Group with a view to consider amalgamating under one roof in a larger building in the future.
