THE final preparations are being made for a vibrant celebration of the African fashion scene, which is taking place in Oxford for the first time today.

The African Fashion Roots Oxford (AFROshow) event will include an exhibition, live catwalk performances, music, food and the opportunity to invest in a selection of African-inspired attire.

Mrs Loutala Mpolo, originally from Congo, set up the event after being asked by English friends where she got her clothes.

Designers for the event include 12 students from City of Oxford College and a variety of models have been scouted by organisers.

The students were offered a selection of four different materials in February and then put to work creating garments of their choice – menswear and womenswear – to grace the runway.

The show will be running at the Tingewick Hall in the John Radcliffe Hospital, with shopping from 1.30pm to 5pm and runway shows and entertainment from 6.30pm to 9pm.

VIP tickets, which include a raffle ticket and a sparkling reception, cost £15 ore regular tickets are £10 from: tinyurl.com/h6xfwng
