A COMMUNITY sports day in Blackbird Leys will play host to Councillor Rae Humberstone on his last official duty as Lord Mayor of Oxford.

The event on Sunday, May 15 has been organised by the Oxford Polish Association (OPA) as a special take on its monthly family sports activity days.

People of all ages from across the Leys and further afield are invited to join the organisation at the Leys Pools and Leisure Centre from 3pm to 5pm.

Mr Humberstone, a resident of Little Bury, Greater Leys representing Blackbird Leys on Oxford City Council, has agreed to don his robes one more time for the event.

He said: "I haven't been to OPA's events before, only met them at the Leys Festival. This will be my last engagement as Lord Mayor and I shall miss it; it has been great."

Activities at the event will include football, basketball, table tennis, dancing and badminton as well as a bouncy castle for youngsters.

OPA creator Ewa Gluza said: "This is open and free for all the community, from age one to 101.

"We promote healthy lifestyles and provide an opportunity for young people to try some new sports without having to commit to a gym membership.

"The feedback we have received so far from participants was excellent and people felt there was something for every age group and all families were able to benefit."
