THE father of a teenager who was killed when she ran into the path of an oncoming car after an argument with her boyfriend has said his "beautiful" daughter will never be forgotten.

Katy Pancott, 19, died of multiple injuries when she was struck by a car on the A40 between Eynsham roundabout and Wolvercote roundabout in October.

She was being driven to Witney to see a friend by boyfriend Andi Rama when the pair started arguing.

An inquest this morning heard Miss Pancott, who was double the drink drive limit on the night of her death, tried to get out of the car while it was moving, causing Mr Rama to pull over into the entrance of the Agrivert plant.

She then ran into the main road of the A40, and was hit by a Ford Focus driving at speeds of 50 to 60mph. She died hours later at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Coroner for Oxford Darren Salter recorded a verdict of death by road traffic collision and said: "It must have been a massive shock when this occurred, and entirely unexpected.

"Katy being such a young age too, it's tragic. It's extremely sad."

Her father David Griffin said he would never forget his beautiful daughter.

Speaking afterwards he said: "It's not just the loss of Katy, it's what she could have been."

Miss Pancott lived at home in Orchard Way, Kidlington with her Mr Griffin, brothers Lucas, 10, and Kyle, 13, and 17-year-old sister Sophia. Her mother Michelle Pancott lives in Oxford.

Miss Pancott's boyfriend Andi Rama attended the inquest and said he and Miss Pancott had been going through a "rough patch" in their relationship at the time of her death.

He said: "We were always arguing, always splitting up. We were on and off - at the time it was difficult to say if we were on or off.

As soon as I stopped the car she got out. I opened the window and shouted to her. It was pitch black.

"She was saying 'go ahead, leave me like you always do' and just swearing all the time.

"I said no I was waiting for her.

"I didn't see her run across the road. But she had stuff in her bag and I heard it shuffling around when she started running.

"I just heard a bang."

Driving the Ford Focus that hit Miss Pancott was Philip Cartwright, who was travelling home to Witney with his wife Beryl.

He said all of a sudden he saw a face in front of him.

In a statement to the inquest he wrote: "My immediate perception was her hair was sticking out. I didn't have time to swerve so I braked. She hit the windscreen. I heard a bang and I let out a couple of screams, I had a hysterical reaction."

At the family's request, forensic pathologist Nicholas Hunt was asked to check Miss Pancott's body for any signs of assault before she died, but he said although it did not look like it, the level of her injuries made it hard to tell.

Detective Sergeant Mike West, the investigating officer, said no criminal offences had taken place.
