UP to 10,000 people are expected to descend on a West Oxfordshire river bank for the county’s most popular free music festival this weekend.

The 20th Riverside Festival in Charlbury will take place today and tomorrow at the Mill Field beside the River Evenlode.

More than 35 local bands will perform across three stages including headliners The Dreaming Spires, Alphabet Backwards and Balloon Ascents.

There will also be a comedy stage, crafts, jewellery and clothes stalls, children’s entertainment and bars serving specially-brewed Riverside Festival ale, produced by Witney’s Wychwood Brewery.

Organiser Andy Pickard said: “There’s a buzz around the event as it’s our 20th anniversary. The festival is great as we capture the creativity of the community.”

The festival began when musicians met in a Charlbury garden each year for a gig and picnic.

The event runs from 12noon–10pm today and 11am–8pm tomorrow.
