A POPULAR pub in Bicester has bagged a prize in the 'Best of the Best Awards' for bringing itself into the 21st century.

The Trigger Pond in Bucknell picked up the award for 'Best Digital Marketing Pub' in the industry awards staged by pub operator Wadworth.

A party was held at the Bear Hotel's grand ballroom in Devizes, Wiltshire at the end of last month to help the pub winners celebrate their success.

Jo and Harwood Warrington who manage the Trigger Pond, were presented with the award.

Mr Warrington said: "In the modern era, running a pub is not only about great hospitality and great food, but also about digital marketing and social media.

"It acts as a window for our customers into what we do and the family at the Trigger Pond.

"It shows what we are famous for which is sensational food at sensible prices, our roaring fire and warm welcome."

The celebratory event recognises the very best pubs and people from Wadworth’s managed and tenanted pub estates.

Two Oxford pubs were also awarded honours at the event – The Victoria Arms in Old Marston and The White Hart in Wytham.

Ruth Bowers, landlady at The Victoria Arms, won the 'Managed House Best Turn Around Pub' title and Mark Butcher at The White Hart was a joint winner in the 'Tenanted Trade Best Food Pub' category.

Chris Welham, CEO of Wadworth's, said: "Pubs are truly a British institution and are renowned for providing a warm welcome, great food and perfect pints across the world and it makes me extremely proud to know that the people running and working in Wadworth pubs every day help keep that reputation and tradition alive.

"Jo and Harwood, Mark and Amanda, and Ruth deserve huge congratulations for the awards they have received."

Wadworth, a regional pub operator and family brewer, has more than 200 pubs across the South West.

Founded by Henry A Wadworth, the business passed to his founding partner John Smith Bartholomew and is now in the fourth generation of management by the Bartholomew family.

Wadworth has brewed beer, including 6X, at its Victorian brewery in Devizes since 1875.
