THE countdown to Christmas will be officially launched in Bicester when the town's lights are switched on.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the event on Thursday, November 30.

Festivities will start from 4pm in the town centre, with live performances in the main stage in Sheep Street from 4.30pm.

There will be hot chestnuts, teacup rides, a multitude of stalls and, of course, a visit from Father Christmas himself.

Nativity animals will also be featured in a petting zoo.

The event always draws in big crowds, and will be led this year by town mayor Les Sibley.

He said: "One of the highlights of the year has to be the annual Christmas lights switch on event.

"This magical occasion draws large crowds of people of all ages into the town centre to enjoy the festive atmosphere together with the many stalls and goodies on offer."

Activities will run on the night until 8pm.
